“ In 2012 I created a website in a weekend that let users see when video games were coming up on different platforms per month. It was the first side project I had ever released and by the end of the first week the site had received 47000 views and had 22000 users. Over time I build an iOS application (as a web developer!) to varying levels of success. Now, having taught myself Swift, I decided to build the app (and the backend!) from scratch in a more robust, beautiful and delightful way. With Playdate you can filter by your favourite video game plaforms, filter by the region of your choice, decide when you want to be alerted (on the day, the day before or a week before) about release dates of your favourite titles and even link to trailers and information about the game. I became interested in the topic and started to research ways to make it easier to turn journaling into a habit. I'm an avid Duolingo user and I've always been very impressed with how they handle multi day streaks, and in particular, how well they worked for me in making a habit out of using Duolingo. So I added streaks to journaling and that concept turned into Simple Journal. After that I wanted a more granular control over the things I was tracking in my journaling, so I added a way to track and chart various types of activities. There's a link to another link to a website, and from there the expectation is that I print it out. On top of that, I some food allergies and there's no way for me to modify the recipe to my needs. An even bigger pain point is shopping for ingredients from recipes. Statistics show that over 80% of American shoppers use recipes as their starting point for online grocery shopping (Source: Chicory). But in the current landscape, I have to manually go through and select each ingredient and quantity one at a time, which is tedious and creates massive drop off.
