Error: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND in nodejs for get call

getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND means client was not able to connect to given address. Please try specifying host without http:

Regarding learning resources, you won't go wrong if you start with http://www.nodebeginner.org/ and then go through some good book to get more in-depth knowledge - I recommend Professional Node.js , but there's many out there.

Check host file which like this

for me it was because in /etc/hosts file the hostname is not added

I can't explain why, but changing url parameter from having localhost to 127.0.0.1 on mongodb.MongoClient.connect() method on Windows 10 solved the issue.

I also had same problem and I fixed it by using right proxy. Please double check your proxy settings if you are using proxy network.

My problem was that my endpoint was http://tenant1.localhost. While this somehow works in the browser, it did not with node.

I had to add the following line to /etc/hosts

When I tried to install a new ionic app, I got the same error as follows, I tried many sources and found the mistake made in User Environment and System Environment unnecessarily included the PROXY value. I removed the ```user variables http://host:port PROXY

system Variables http_proxy http://username:password@host:port ```` and now it is working fine without trouble.

I had a similar issue and it turned out the issue was with my proxy password.

The error was:

"Start npm npm ERR! code ENOTFOUND npm ERR! errno ENOTFOUND npm ERR! network request to https://registry.npmjs.org/tslib/-/tslib-1.14.1.tgz failed, reason: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND myUsername npm ERR! network This is a problem related to network connectivity. npm ERR! network In most cases you are behind a proxy or have bad network settings. npm ERR! network npm ERR! network If you are behind a proxy, please make sure that the npm ERR! network 'proxy' config is set properly. It turned out the interesting part was this one :

failed, reason: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND myUsername

My password, that was used in the proxy, had special characters like ! and #. After I used percent encoding : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percent-encoding I was able to run npm install. Before this I tried with a wrong password and a received a 407 error.

I was running into the same problem and after some trial and error discovered that my hosts file customisation was causing the problem.

My localhost DNS was overwritten and because of that a simple ping was failing:

$ ping http://localhost
# ping: cannot resolve http://localhost: Unknown host

Once I resolved the configuration of /private/etc/hosts file, pinging localhost successfully worked, and was no longer getting the error that you were seeing:

# Fatal error: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND
