We are seeking an experienced Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) specialist for a critical research project focused on electric vehicle (EV) fire safety in a large underground parking structure. The objective is to model and simulate several fire scenarios to analyze heat and smoke propagation, assess tenability conditions, and evaluate the effectiveness of built-in fire protection systems. The results will form a key component of a research thesis.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop a 3D FDS model based on architectural and mechanical plans to be provided.Set up and execute a series of fire simulations based on predefined scenarios, including cases with and without mechanical ventilation and active fire suppression.Conduct a thorough analysis of simulation outputs to extract key data points and trends.Prepare and deliver a comprehensive package of results in a structured and timely manner.Required Deliverables:The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a complete set of deliverables, including:
Raw Simulation Data: Exported CSV files for key output variables, including time-history data for temperature, visibility, gas concentrations (CO/HCN), and total Heat Release Rate (HRR) at specified locations.Visual Outputs: A set of high-resolution images from Smokeview, including temperature and smoke density maps at key time intervals (e.g., 5 minutes into the simulation). Sequential images for video generation may also be requested.
Structured Analysis Framework: As a core component of the analysis, you will be required to populate a set of predefined summary tables. This involves a systematic, minute-by-minute documentation of key performance indicators (such as maximum temperature, visibility levels, etc.) and a qualitative assessment based on simulation observations. This framework is designed to ensure all research questions are methodically answered.
Comparative Summary: A brief report analyzing the key differences and outcomes between the simulated scenarios.Qualifications:
Proven expertise in FDS and Smokeview.Strong professional background in fire engineering, CFD, and heat transfer.Demonstrable experience in modeling fires in complex geometries. Experience with vehicle or EV fires is a significant asset.Ability to deliver precise, well-documented results under a tight deadline.
