Description

I am seeking one of the following:
A London-based researcher with experience in education, children's literature, or social research who:
Focuses exclusively on London/UK-based data
Can source the most recent, credible facts, figures, and news
Has experience or a strong understanding of Black representation in children’s literature (ages 5–7)
Can produce a well-structured research write-up, not just data dumps, backed by references from trusted sources (e.g., academic journals, Ofsted reports, publishers' stats, government data, etc.)
Understands the educational value and cultural relevance of picture books for children
OR
A well-connected professional (not necessarily a researcher) who:
Has direct relationships with multiple London or UK primary schools
Can provide first-hand insights or facilitate access to real classroom environments, reader behaviors, or school librarian feedback regarding Black-authored or Black-character picture books
What the Research Should CoverThe write-up should address:
Current representation of Black characters in UK picture books for ages 5–7
Recent statistics on ethnic diversity in children’s publishing (UK focus, not US unless used for comparison)
Analysis on how Black-themed books are received by non-Black children
Exploration of the inclusive teaching of Black stories in mixed classrooms
How to write and publish stories that reflect Black culture but are also universally relatable
How 5–7 year olds engage differently with stories vs. 3–5 year olds
The educational and emotional objectives of reading at this age (e.g. empathy, curiosity, comprehension)
Comparative lens to US Black authors (e.g. how they write for Black empowerment; how UK authors can do similar while appealing broadly)
